The fact which separates wrist tattoos from other styles is that it is considered to be highly painful. But what is the real truth? Want to know more in detail about this classy tattooing? Here is something for you.

Will wrist tattoos hurt?

This would be the first question to come across your mind. It doesn't matter if you are going for a small design or wish to have a complete quotes inked over your wrist. The fact is that it will be discomforting. Yes, every tattoo will hurt somewhat, varying from person to person.

While some tattoos hurt more than others, it is generally said that wrist tattoos are pretty high up on the pain scale. But this is not the case always. How much a tattoo pains, will depend on several factors such as:

  • Your pain threshold
  • Your skin’s sensitivity
  • Your artist’s experience
  • Your tattoo size
  • And the tattoo machine being used

Why it pains?

Actually, the skin around your wrist is very thin. This means that when a tattooing needle is used, a little more effort is required to reach bone in a lot of areas. Now when the needles hit close to the bone, it pains terrible. So working around the bone can make you feel quite uncomfortable, leaving you with that vibrating feeling.

Secondly, when tattooing needles create punctures through your thin skin, the pain felt will be quite sharp and intense. Of course, it will be more as compared to the pain sensation which comes with being tattooed on other thick areas your skin.

Lets checkout some reasons for pain in those three common wrist tattoo areas:

1. Outer wrist tattoo: Starting from the outer or top of wrist, tattoo pain will be normal in this case. It won’t be too bad. However, if you are working on the bony lumps right next to your wrist joints, it can be traumatic. When the bones are hit by the tattooing needles, it causes suffering. Rest, all other areas around the top area will be tolerable.

2. Inner wrist tattoo: These can be quite painful. Reason being, the skin here is soft and sensitive in nature. Along this, the insides of your wrists have a greater number of nerves running through them as compared to the outsides. This can be a major reason behind increased amount of pain you may feel in this area. When working with the inner area, the pain will be quite intense and deep. But as the overall area is relatively small, there will be not much work to do there. It can be bearable.

3. Side wrist tattoo: Similar to the inner part of your wrists, the sides are also quite bony. Hence, if you are getting tattooed here, be ready for the pain.

So these were different areas of the wrist which will result in different amounts of pain. But is there now way to eliminate the pain factor?

If you are worried just because you won't be able to make it through the pain, you have your solution with NumbSkin cream. Applying a topical anesthetic cream with 5% lidocaine, like NumbSkin, can produce numbing sensation which lasts somewhere around three to four hours. So, you will not feel any pain. You can get any part of your wrist tattooed, isn’t that amazing?
